FAQS

The Energy Action Team program was developed to teach students easy ways to use energy wisely in their homes. Program content supports Illinois Academic State Standards, so you can easily integrate the program into existing curriculum.

Yes! This is the same kind of program provided by ComEd, Nicor Gas, Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas that provides energy education and energy-saving kits to schools across Illinois. If you have participated in Super Savers Kids in the past, you are eligible to participate in Energy Action Team too.

The Energy Action Team program comes complete with an online show to be viewed live or on demand, a teacher toolkit filled with lesson plans, activity books and engaging activities that can be used inside and outside of the classroom. Each teacher and student will receive a student workbook, access to digital activities and games and an Energy Action Team kit. The kit includes energy-saving products that will help students implement classroom lessons at home. Kit items may include:

    <!--

  • 7-plug advanced power strip
  • -->

  • LED bulb*
  • LED night light*
  • High-efficiency showerhead
  • Kitchen faucet aerator
  • Two bathroom faucet aerators
  • Shower timer
  • <!--

  • Flow rate test bag
  • Plumber's tape
  • Hot water temperature gauge card
  • -->

*In areas that are not served by ComEd, the kit will not include the LED blub and LED night light.

Participation requirements are minimal. As part of the program, we ask that each student complete a student survey. The survey form helps us gauge the knowledge gained by each student during the program. It also helps us track how much energy is being saved by the program overall.

Teachers who participate will be given access to the digital educational materials. In addition, 5th grade teachers will be sent the printed educational materials and will receive the energy-savings kits at their school. We ask that participating 5th grade teachers distribute the print material, send home the kits with each student and collect the students’ participation surveys after their families install the kit measures. Additionally, when teachers send back the student surveys in the provided Energy Action Team envelope and take the teacher survey, they will receive a $50 mini-grant! Note: Teachers can send back the envelope as soon as at least half of their students complete their survey.

This program is funded by ComEd, Nicor Gas, Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas customers in compliance with state law.

No. The Energy Action Team program will provide one kit for each 5th grade student enrolled in the class. However, there are a limited number of kits for each school year. When this maximum number of kits has been met, no more classrooms will be able to participate until the following school year.

The Energy Action Team program is provided by ComEd, Nicor Gas, Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas at NO COST to you, your school or your school district.
